NOTIFICATION FOR Ph.D. ENTRANCE TEST
SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY, JYOTI-VIHAR

Applications are invited from the Intending Candidates to appear Ph.D. entrance written test under various faculties of the Sambalpur University. Eligibility: Masters Degree holders in Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Education, Law & Medical (Allopathy, Ayurvedic & Homeopathy), Engineering and Technology Examinations of Sambalpur University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto by UGC with at least 2nd Class marks in relevant subject(s) are eligible for enrollment in Ph.D. programme. Subjects in which marks are not awarded, equivalent grade shall be taken in to account.

The Examination (Objective type) will be held on 30.1.2011 at 10 AM in Sambalpur University campus at Jyoti Vihar In the following subjects.

Anthropology, Social Work, Sociology, Home Science, Food Science and Technology, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering , Botany, Zoology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Law, Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Oriya ,Hindi, English, Linguistics, Economics, Finance and Control, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Geology, Management, Medicine, Pharmacy, Ayurvedic, Homeopathy, Philosophy, Psychology, Geography, Sanskrit, Commerce, Education, Information Technology, Electronics.

It is mandatory for each candidate desiring to enroll in the Ph.D. programme of Sambalpur University to appear the entrance test and declare qualified securing a minimum of 50% marks. Intending candidate shall apply in plain paper in the prescribed format mentioned below along with a bank draft Rs.1000/-(non-refundable) to be drawn in favour of Chairman, P.G. Council, Sambalpur University payable at SBI, Jyoti-Vihar, (code 6672) Burla.

The following category of candidates shall be exempted from appearing at the Written Test.
a. Candidates who have qualified in UGC/CSIR (JRF) and GATE Examination.
b. Teachers who have a minimum of five years of teaching experience in the college/university level.
c. Those who have a minimum of five years of professional experience.
d. Candidates having M.Phil degree Sambalpur University with course work.

The decision of the University authority on the exemption of candidates from appearing the entrance test shall be final.

The final selection of all qualified candidates shall be based on career (80%) and Viva-Voce (20%) which will be conducted by the respective Nodal centres on pre-notified date. All such selected candidates shall be eligible to enroll in one semester Ph.D. Course work in the nodal centre. A candidate securing a minimum of 6.5 Grade Point in the course work shall be eligible for Ph.D. registration under Sambalpur University.

The application filled in the prescribed format along with the bank draft, two recent attested passport size photographs and other academic records showing the qualification of the candidates must reach the undersigned on or before 10/1/2011. Applications received after the due date shall be rejected. The format can be downloaded from University website, www.suniv.ac.in or may be obtained from the Central Office ,Sambalpur University.

About Sambalpur University 
The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Orissa Legislature on 10th December, 1966 to fulfill long cherished dream of the people of Western Orissa for establishment of a University. The University started functioning from 1st January, 1967 with Prof.Parsuram Mishra as the first Vice-Chancellor. The University was inaugurated on 4th January, 1967 by Hon’ble Chancellor A.N.Khosla. The University started functioning in 1967 in a rented private building at Dhanupali, Sambalpur and in Government building at Ainthapali, Sambalpur from 1968 - 72. In the year 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla.
