About Sikkim University
Sikkim University is a National University established under Sikkim University Act, 2006. It started functioning from July 2007. The university campus is expected to be built at Yangang in South Sikkim district of Sikkim. Professor Mahendra P. Lama has been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University. The university will offer traditional courses in humanities, physical and life sciences and forestry along with non-traditional courses which would be unique and related to the state including subjects like ethnic history, mountain studies, border studies and hill music and culture. All the colleges in the state are affiliated to this university.
