NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY & NAVAL ACADEMY EXAMINATION (II), 2011

F.No. 7/1/2011-E.I(B) : An Examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 21st August, 2011 for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 128th Course, and for the 90th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from June 2012. The candidates Joining Indian Naval Academy would undergo 4 years B.Tech Course and would be given an opportunity to join Executive and Technical Branches of the Navy subject to availability of vacancies.

The approximate number of vacancies to be filled on the results of this examination will be 335 [(195 for the Army, 39 for Navy, 66 for the Air Force and 35 for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 cadet Entry Scheme)]. Vacancies are provisional and may be changed depending on the availability of training capacity of National Defence Academy.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY :

(a) Nationality : A candidate must either be :
(i) a citizen of India, or
(ii) a subject of Bhutan, or
(iii) a subject of Nepal, or
(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

(b) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status :
Only unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd July, 1993 and not later than 1st January, 1996 are eligible.

(c) Educational Qualifications :

(i) For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equilvalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

FEE :
(a) Candiates applying Online (excepting SC/ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs. 50/- (Rupees Fifty only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/Debit Card.

(b) (i) Candidates applying Offline (through Common Application Form) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp. Central Recruitment Fee Stamp (NOT postage stamp) of the requisite denomination may be obtained from the post office and affixed on the Application Form in the space provided therein. The stamp must be got cancelled from the issuing Post Office with the date stamp of the post office in such a manner that the impression of the cancellation mark partially overflows on the Application Form itself but within the space provided on the Application Form itself. The impression of the cancellation mark should be clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and the Post Office of issue.

HOW TO APPLY:
(a) Candidates may apply Online by using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.

(b) Candidates may also apply offline in the Common Application Form devised by the Commision for its examinations which can be processed on computerised machines. This Application Form alongwith an Information Brochure containing general instructions for filling up the Form, an Acknowledgement Card and an envelope for sending the application will be obtainable from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country as listed in Appendix-III of Notice against cash payment of Rs. 30/- (Rupees thirty only). Form should be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices only and not from any other agency. This Form can be used only once and for only one examination. Candidates who wish to apply offline must use the Form supplied with the Information Brochure only and they should in no case use photocopy/reproduction/unautho-risedly printed copy of the Form. Since this Form is electronically scanned, due care should be taken to fill up the Application Form, correctly. While filling up the Application Form, please refer to detailed instructions given in Appendix-II

LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS :

(a) Online
The Online Applications can be filled upto 9th May, 2011 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled.

(b) Offline
(i) The completed Offline Application Form must reach the Controller of Examinations, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069 on or before 9th May, 2011. (ii) In respect of Offline applications received only by post (by post/speed post) from candidates from Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Lakshadweep or abroad, the last date for receipt of applications is 16th May, 2011.

About National Defense Academy (NDA) 
National Defense Academy is a joint service academy located at Khadakwasla, Pune where cadets are trained for all three defense wings i.e. Air force, Army and Navy. Here they receive basic training before they can go to respective academies for their pre-commission training. NDA is situated over wide area of around 8,300 acres. NDA is seen as a strong way to pursue your career in Indian Defense Wings. NDA’s academic course includes all typical subjects that are included in university degrees. In first two academic years cadets receive common training for all three wings and in third year the cadet received detailed training of his respective wing. In NDA cadets are trained for all outdoor activities like paragliding, horse climbing etc. Here their overall development is carried out.

For being eligible to apply for exam certain criterion are set, they are:-

An applicant must be citizen of India or resident of Bhutan or a subject of Nepal or a candidate is Tibetan Refugee came in India before January 1, 1962 for settling down in India.

Or an applicant should be of Indian origin who has migrated from any of following countries to India for permanently settle in India:- Uganda, East African countries of Kenya, Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan, Zaire, Ethiopia, the United republic of Tanzania, Zambia or Vietnam.
An applicant belonging to any one of above condition (Except Nepal) will require certificate of eligibility.
An applicant should be unmarried and between the age limit of 16 and half year to 19 years.
Only male candidate can apply.
For admission to Army wing, educational requirements are 12th passing certificate.
For admission to Air force or naval wing, a candidate should be 12th passed with physics and mathematics subjects.
A candidate must be physically and mentally strong.
The minimum required height is 157.5 cms. for Army and Navy and 162.5 for Air force wing.
Cadets are selected from entrance exam carried out by UPSC every 6 month. After that, selected candidate needs to pass other rounds such as interview round and other tests. Only top ranked 300-350 students enters inside the institution.
