Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC)Damodar Valley Corporation is one of the premier power utilities in India engaged in Thermal / Hydel Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution, peripheral activities for a sustained and eco-friendly growth of the Valley Area with its Head Quarters in Kolkata and an annual turnover of 5284 crores (F.Y.2008-09) having an installed capacity of 2857.20 MW and it is likely to augment its capacity by addition of about 10427.20 MW in the XIth- XIIth Plan. About Damodar Valley Corporation
Indian soil is rich in fertile, whereas when it comes to river valley areas fertile of soil is more, and irrigation scope is very high. Damodar is one of the fertile river which passes through west Bengal & Jharkhand. The Damodar valley is rich in deposit of Coal and mica that’s why many coal developing industries are near on the river valley. The river is good for hydel project. Therefore Damodar River valley project came to India during July 7, 1948 the project was influenced by Tennesse valley Authority of USA. By the support major leader of the country the project took place by act of constituent assembly of India.
Damodar Valley corporation main initial task to control flood during monsoon the lower valley of river showed major danger in the history, and caused flood to many district of states. Other aim of Damodar Valley Corporation that is DVC is to give proper irrigation to fertilize land for farming and to give power generation to all areas. The main benefit goes to Bihar and west Bengal. The major role of DVC is power management, water management and soil conservation. The Damodar river valley project is constructed at Durgapur of damodar which has 692 meters long and 11.6 meters high. Damodar river valley’s left bank and right bank is considered for irrigation and navigation. Four dams are controlled by Damodar Valley Corporation that is The Tilaiya Dam which has capacity of 2000kw; The Panchet Hill Dam which has its single hydel power capacity is 40,000 kw, constructed in dhanbad district, The Konar Dam, The Maithon Dam each with capacity of 20,000 kw. Three hydro electric power houses are running by DVC that is Bokaro, Chandrapur and Durgapur. Five thermal power stations and one gas turbine station with capacity of 82.5 MW. Major development were arising for check dams, forest development, wasteland, farm is going in the profile of Damodar Valley Corporation.
