THE STRUCTURE OF CRET-2011

LEVEL 1 TEST: This test is of objective type questions and it is divided into two sections - Section A and Section B. Negative Marking for wrong answers is applicable as mentioned in para 1.05 for Level 1 Test.

Section A: General Awareness, Academic and Research Aptitude: This Section of the paper will comprise of 50 multiple choice questions all of which are to be attempted. Each question will carry 4 marks. Duration of this Section will be 01 :30 hours.

Section B: Subject Proficiency in the CRET 2011 subject applied for: This Section will comprise of 50 multiple choices type objective questions of the subject opted by the candidate. All questions are to be attempted. Each question carries 4 marks. Duration of this Section will be 01:30 hours.

NOTE: Test for Level 1 -- Section A and Level 1 - Section B will be in continuation. Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination room in between the two Sections. Immediately after completion of Section A duration, i.e. 1:30 hours, the question/answer booklet for Section A will be collected and simultaneously question booklet and answer sheet for Section B will be distributed. Total duration of Level 1 Test (Level 1 A and Level 1 B) is 3 hours.

LEVEL 2 (WRITTEN SUBJECT TEST): This test is of subjective type based on the subject of CRET-2011 opted by the candidate in its online registration and eligibility.

The duration of Level 2 (Written Subject Test) of CRET-2011 shall be three hours and the total marks shall be 200. This Test will comprise of 3 sections consisting of Short Answer (10 questions of 10 marks each to be answered in 50 words), Medium Answer (3 questions of 20 marks each to be answered in 200 words) and Long Answer question (1 question of 40 marks to be answered in 400 words). In all 14 questions are to be answered in Level 2 Test. There may or may not be internal choices within each question.


Allahabad University is a premier Central University located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Its origins lie in the Muir Central College, named after Lt. Governor of North-Western Provinces, Sir William Muir in 1876, who suggested the idea of a Central University at Allahabad, which later evolved to the present University, and at one point it was even called, the "Oxford of the East", and on June 24, 2005 its Central University status was restored through the 'University Allahabad Act, 2005', of the Parliament of India.

The foundation stone of the Muir Central College, was laid by Governor-General of India, Lord Northbrook on December 9, 1873. The College was named after Sir William Muir, Lt. Governor of United Province, who was instrumental in its foundation. The building was designed by William Emerson, who also designed Victoria Memorial in Kolkata and Crawford Market in Mumbai in a unique combination of Indo-Saracenic, Egyptian and Gothic styles.
